Why OrangeTill

Built different.
On purpose.

We never touch your money

Unlike BitPay or Coinbase Commerce, OrangeTill generates QR codes that point to your wallet. We're a display tool — legally and technically.

No percentage fees

Every other crypto POS takes a cut of your sales. We charge a flat software subscription. Your Bitcoin is 100% yours.

Works on any device

iPhone, Android, tablet, desktop, or laptop. No app store required. Just open the browser and go.

No expensive POS setup

Block and Stripe require hardware, contracts, and technical setup. OrangeTill works on any phone, tablet, or laptop you already own. Zero hardware cost.

Built for Main Street

Not for exchanges. Not for traders. For coffee shops, food trucks, freelancers, and anyone else who wants to say yes to Bitcoin.

Why not just use BTCPay Server?

BTCPay Server is excellent — open source, self-hosted, Lightning-capable, and free. It's also built for developers. Setting it up requires a server, technical knowledge, and ongoing maintenance. OrangeTill is built for the merchant who wants to accept Bitcoin in the next five minutes, not the next five weekends.

Your wallet app can receive Bitcoin — but it wasn't built for business. OrangeTill adds live dollar conversion, instant QR codes at the exact right amount, payment logging for tax time, multi-device sync, guided mode for staff, and a full payment history. Your wallet app does none of that.

The simplest way to start accepting Bitcoin I've ever seen. Enter amount, show QR, done.

If you accept payment for goods or services, OrangeTill works for you.

Common questions

Things merchants ask us.

What if I don't want to deal with Bitcoin price swings?
The simplest path is auto-conversion: set up an exchange like Coinbase to automatically convert each Bitcoin payment to dollars within minutes of receiving it — so price swings never touch you. Prefer to hold some Bitcoin? Convert only part and keep the rest. Either way, you decide how much price exposure you want — and for most merchants, the answer is none. Lightning helps too: payments settle in seconds, so there’s barely a moment of price movement to worry about.
Why not just share a wallet address directly — why pay for a subscription?
You can — and if that works for your business, we genuinely mean it when we say go for it. A wallet address and a handwritten sign is a perfectly valid way to accept Bitcoin.

OrangeTill exists because most small business owners aren't crypto-native. They need dollar amounts auto-calculated, transaction records for their accountant, a QR code that doesn't require a customer to type 34 characters by hand, and a payment history they can export and point to at tax time. That's what we built.

There's something else worth saying, though. Bitcoin was created to solve a real pain point — the need for people to transact freely, without intermediaries extracting value at every step. Satoshi didn't have to build it. But someone believed a better way was possible, and built it anyway.

OrangeTill isn't SHA-256. We're not rewriting the rules of money. But we were built in that same spirit — the belief that a small business owner in New Hampshire shouldn't have to pay 2.9% of every sale to a payments company just to get paid. If we can make accepting Bitcoin feel as simple as accepting cash, we've done our job.
What happens to my money if OrangeTill shuts down?
Nothing — because we never touch your money in the first place. OrangeTill is non-custodial, which means every payment goes directly to your own wallet. We don't hold funds, we don't process transactions, and we're not in the middle of anything. If OrangeTill shut down tomorrow, your wallet would still be exactly where you left it with every cent intact. You'd just lose the QR code generator. Your money is always yours. On the reliability front, OrangeTill runs on Cloudflare's global infrastructure — if there's ever an issue, you can check status at cloudflarestatus.com.
Do I need to understand Bitcoin to use OrangeTill?
Not deeply. You need a free wallet app to receive payments — setup takes about 5 minutes with our step-by-step guide. After that, OrangeTill handles everything: live exchange rates, QR code generation, payment logging. Our Learn section has plain-English guides written specifically for people who are new to Bitcoin.
Is this legal? Do I have to report Bitcoin payments to the IRS?
Yes, accepting Bitcoin is legal. And yes, Bitcoin payments are taxable income — the IRS treats them like any other payment you receive. The good news is it's not complicated for most merchants: you report the dollar value of the Bitcoin at the time of receipt, just like cash. OrangeTill logs every transaction with timestamps and dollar amounts to make this easy. Our crypto tax guide for small businesses walks through everything you need to know.
What if a customer says they paid but I don't see it?
Bitcoin transactions are public and permanent — every payment is recorded on the blockchain and can be verified independently. OrangeTill logs payments in your history as soon as they're detected. If there's ever a question, you can look up any transaction on a public blockchain explorer using the transaction ID. There's no "he said, she said" with Bitcoin — the record is always there.
How long does a Bitcoin payment actually take?
Bitcoin on-chain transactions typically take 10–60 minutes to fully confirm on the blockchain — but in practice, most merchants don’t wait for full confirmation. The payment leaves the customer’s wallet instantly and is visible as pending within seconds. For a coffee shop or restaurant, that’s usually enough to complete the sale. And if speed matters, Lightning is near-instant — payments settle in seconds, start to finish. It’s the fastest way to accept Bitcoin at the counter.
Is accepting Bitcoin legally complicated? Do I need a special license?
For most merchants, no. The key distinction is that OrangeTill is non-custodial — we never hold, process, or transmit your funds. Payments go directly from your customer's wallet to yours. That means OrangeTill is not a money transmitter, and neither are you as a merchant simply accepting Bitcoin as payment, in the same way you aren't a money transmitter when you accept cash. Money transmission laws apply to businesses that hold or move other people's funds — not to merchants accepting payment for goods or services. That said, regulations vary by state and evolve over time. For the most current federal guidance, the FinCEN guidance on virtual currencies is the authoritative source. Always consult a qualified legal professional for advice specific to your situation.
Does OrangeTill support Lightning Network?
Yes — Lightning Network is live in OrangeTill. Enter your Lightning Address (like [email protected]) or LNURL in Settings, and a Lightning pill appears alongside Bitcoin. Customers using Strike, Cash App, Muun, Phoenix, or any Lightning-compatible wallet can pay instantly — no on-chain wait, near-zero network fees. It's the fastest way to accept Bitcoin at the counter today.
How does OrangeTill actually work — can I trust it with my payments?
OrangeTill is a display tool — it generates QR codes and logs transactions. Here's exactly what happens: you enter a dollar amount, OrangeTill converts it to the current Bitcoin equivalent using live market data, and generates a QR code containing your wallet address and the exact amount. The customer scans it and their wallet sends the payment directly to your wallet. OrangeTill never sees the payment, never touches the funds, and has no access to your wallet. There is no technical mechanism by which OrangeTill could intercept or redirect a payment — the QR code points directly to your address. You can verify this yourself by decoding any QR code OrangeTill generates and checking that the embedded address matches yours exactly.
What happens to my payment history if I cancel?
Your payment history is yours — always. You can export your full history as a CSV at any time from the History tab in the app, before or after canceling. Your data is also stored locally on your device, so it doesn't disappear if you cancel your subscription. We'd also encourage you to export a CSV before any major change — it's a clean record for your accountant regardless. You own your data. We just help you organize it.
Can I accept US dollars through OrangeTill?
No — OrangeTill is a Bitcoin-only payment tool. It accepts Bitcoin and Lightning payments directly to your wallet. It does not process credit cards, debit cards, ACH transfers, or any fiat currency.

If you’d rather end up with dollars than hold Bitcoin, the cleanest path is auto-conversion — set up an exchange like Coinbase to convert each payment to dollars automatically, within minutes of receiving it. Our auto-conversion guide walks through exactly how to set that up.

And OrangeTill works alongside your existing payment setup — many merchants run their usual card POS for cards and OrangeTill for Bitcoin. They’re complementary, not competing.
Does OrangeTill work alongside my existing POS — Square, Toast, Clover?
Yes, completely. OrangeTill doesn't replace your POS — it runs alongside it. It has no integration with your existing payment processor, no access to your card transactions, and nothing to configure on either side. You accept cards through Square, Toast, Clover, or whatever you're running now; you accept Bitcoin through OrangeTill. They don't know each other exists.

Whether OrangeTill runs on the same device as your POS or a separate tablet at the counter depends on your hardware. If you're on an iPad-based system — Square on iPad, Shopify POS, Lightspeed — you can install OrangeTill right on the same device and switch over when a customer wants to pay in Bitcoin. Clover devices have a built-in browser app that works too. If you're on a locked terminal like Toast or Square Terminal, a small second screen is all you need.

Our POS browser compatibility guide breaks down every major system — what has a browser, what doesn't, and what to do either way.
Why isn't OrangeTill in the App Store or Google Play?
OrangeTill is a PWA — a Progressive Web App. That's a deliberate choice, not a gap in the roadmap, and it works out in your favor in a few important ways.

It works on every device, including ones without an app store. Clover terminals, Amazon Fire tablets, older Android devices — none of them have easy access to the App Store or Google Play, but they all have a browser. OrangeTill installs from the browser in under two minutes on any of them, and lives on your home screen exactly like a native app. Our PWA install guide walks through every device step by step.

You always have the latest version, automatically. Native apps require updates you have to approve. A PWA updates itself silently in the background — when we ship a new feature, it's live for you the next time you open the app. No "Update Available" prompts, no version mismatch between devices.

App stores add no security for what OrangeTill does. OrangeTill is non-custodial. It never holds your money, never processes your payments, and never touches your wallet private keys. The trust question with OrangeTill isn't "is the app legit" — it's "does the QR code point to my wallet address." You can verify that yourself by decoding any QR code OrangeTill generates. The blockchain doesn't care whether an app has 4.8 stars on the App Store.

That said — if you're more comfortable with an App Store listing, that's completely understandable, and a native app isn't off the table permanently. But right now the PWA does everything the native app would do, works on more devices, and ships faster. We think that's the right call for merchants.
