Blisspoint was born in 2018 as the recording project of multi-instrumentalist River Fleischner. Based in Brooklyn, NY, the project has since evolved into a collaborative trio of Fleischner (guitars, synths, vox), Roshan Reddy (synths) and Claire Joko-Fujimoto (synths & vox). Combining the scathing swoon of classic shoegaze, the harsh and exhilarating soundscapes of industrial and the propulsive pop of new wave, the group carves out a specific sonic universe. If Crystal Castles, My Bloody Valentine and Death’s Dynamic Shroud collided in a black hole, it might sound something like Blisspoint.
With Left Respected, their latest EP, Blisspoint signal a seismic shift in their approach to their craft. Moving beyond the breakbeats and sandblasted shoegaze guitar that defined their earlier work, here the group embraces more transparently synthetic soundscapes to propel their songwriting into forms more recognizable as pop music, all while seeking out deeper and stranger emotional textures to communicate.
Here, they push their ideas further: the brights brighter, darks darker, the wounds deeper. the hooks bursting through the digitized, bass-blasted surface of their singular haze.
Keith just gets it, I think. he's nailed the retrofuturistic sound and somehow makes it sound more futuristic than that every time. great album! digboye
