Thin Air 02:15
How could I resist an opportunity to get out of what I just said with a gesture of vague irony? And what would I miss? Another grasping attempt to articulate a feeling and connect with something outside of me? It's gotta come from somewhere It's gotta mean something to you You pull it out of thin air, what do you think that really proves? How bad could it go? How many times can I run it back inside my own head before it stops meaning anything at all? And what do I know? A simulated response, and attack, an image unsaid, totalizing with its edges unsolved You gotta do things sometimes You gotta do something for you. It's gonna turn out alright, what's the worst the world could do?

Hour 02:50
Everybody's got some point to prove Everybody's trying to get ahead of you Everybody's got some stuff they're trying to work through What do you think I'm trying to do? Everybody's got their point of view Everybody's wrong about a thing or two Everybody knows that there is evil in this world And it's coming from real guys like me and you And not an hour goes by without you in my head It's just a matter of time, it never goes unsaid I'm going out of my mind, it's going to take some time to get me back Everybody's trying to get things done Everybody's trying to have a little fun Everybody's got some stuff they're trying to out run Why'd you think that you're the only one? And not an hour goes by without you in my head It's just a matter of time, it never goes unsaid I'm going out of my mind, it's going to take some time to get me back

Second Try 03:14
Something's gotta change Or something's gotta stay the same I don't know Why do you ask? Feeling kinda strange Feels like it'll wash away the future And the past So I guess that's something Played it kind of safe Game it out and watch and wait A few more thousand days Not much to erase Marking out the moves and plays you humoured And filed away And rounded up to nothing I might like a second try But it'd be harder a second time I really thought I was right, I might be next time I might like a second look It'd be the same as the one I took I really thought it was mine, it might be next time Someone's gotta choose Someone's gotta find a use for these things We stored away Wear it like a bruise From a different point of view It's early in the day So I guess that's something I might like a second try But it'd be harder a second time I really thought I was right, I might be next time I might like a second look It'd be the same as the one I took I really thought it was mine, it might be next time

Wait 03:10
Maybe there's another one behind this world But how would I know? And maybe there's a lever I forgot to pull That would make this thing go I'm just spinning around and around until you give me a chore I'm just clicking around and around until you come through the door I just wait Until you tell me what to do again I just wait I just wait You catch me looking out the window like a dog I just wait Maybe there's a question I forgot to ask Don't know what it was And maybe there's a future that occludes its past And the present's a bust I'm just thinking it over again, is there a process to trust? I'm just mapping it over again, I'll trace it out in the dust I just wait Until you tell me what to do again I just wait I just wait You catch me looking out the window like a dog I just wait

Grass 02:34
I want to walk around the block with my feelings off I want to talk about a book I know I want to hang out in the car with the engine off I want to carry you back to our home Give me a chance Give me a chance Give me a chance I will be there for you Making a plan Making a plan Making a plan Or whatever I'm supposed to do I want to get a little glue for the hourglass I want to look directly at the sun I want to take him to the park and sit him in the grass And let him figure out what's going on And say: I'm stupid and stuff Stupid and stuff Stupid and stuff But I will be there for you And if you want it enough Want it enough Want it enough You're going to make it through
7.
Call 03:48
Did you call? I'm waiting on a past life Did you call? I'm waiting for the last time Something about the way we left it makes it hard to disappear Something's going wrong for the last few years Something about the way you hold the wheel so it's hard for you to steer Something's coming up it's going to make things clear Did you call? I'm waiting for an insight Did you call? I'm gonna get this one right Something about the way you phrase it makes it hard to disagree If someone's getting hurt it's someone I can't see Something in the way I fall apart lets you know what I believe Something's coming up, something I think we need

about

This Will Sort You Out was written and recorded by me Dave at home in Montreal in 2024. It’s my first proper album since having a kid, which I’m noting here because 1. you can hear him in the background of a lot of my vocal tracks, and 2. having a kid has forced me to rearticulate my relationship to time in a bunch of ways, which is sort of the theme of this album.

These aren't particularly ambitious songs but I really enjoyed working on them, and I hope you like them. I think what I'm realizing about myself is that if I could write and release ~20 minutes of new music every 1.5 years I would feel creatively satisfied for the rest of my life.
