Another Catch-Up!

I thought you'd like to see what has been keeping me

busy in the craft room these last few days.

I finished my socks, started on a recent road trip.

I've begun hand quilting my "La Finestre" quilt,

after machine quilting in the sashings.

And I've made two more "Small World" blocks,

to give a total of four.

I need another nine, I think.

And some partial blocks to fill in the gaps!

I'm contemplating a new name still,

and wondering why the designer

called it "Small World"?

Any thoughts?

Happy sewing!

A travelling quilt!

I'm away on a little road trip

but I couldn't wait until I got home to share my latest

finish!

My lovely Aurifil threads!

Hard to beat black and white binding!

I'm trying to perfect the quilt swirl!

These photos are taken outside Lakes Entrance, in the

east of Victoria, in a region called Gippsland.

I think the fold lines came from it sitting in the warm car on its little road trip!

I like the way the hexie shapes highlight the lovely

Heather Ross prints.

There was a bit of wrangling getting those side

triangles

pieced in, requiring some 'y seams'.....

and maybe a bit of unpicking! #**!!

I'm not one to shy away from a challenge.

Maybe you can see the double rows of quilting in this photo?

These photos are taken in Metung,

a beautiful fishing village long on my bucket list!

I have tentatively named it Violet Crumble but I will

finally decide when I get home to make a label.

It's always nice to have a close-up of

the backing and the binding...

And here's a better photo of the quilting lines,

1/4" on either side of the hexagons.

Is there anything nicer than taking a quilt with you

on the road trip?

This one certainly came in handy for afternoon naps

after a long day of walking!

I'm looking forward to getting home to start a new

quilt!

Happy sewing!

At last, a finish!

Gosh, it's been a long time between quilt finishes.

I have slowed down with my quilt-making.

I have another hobby, botanical watercolour painting,

that often takes up some of my retirement hours.

I also have a bigger house to look after now that we live

 in regional Victora.

The garden is quite large and I like to help my husband

 maintain it.

A harvest of tomatoes

And now that Mr PnP has retired we are travelling more,

if only a road trip here or there.

We also enjoy exploring all the little towns nearby,

as well as trips back to Melbourne to visit

family and friends.

D'Arenberg Winery in McLaren Vale SA

How many quilts do I really need?

I don't have many new friends or ones that I know well

 enough to gift them to.

But this one was started on a whim and I love it!

Quilting on my Juki!

It is now called Patio Garden because I didn't find

Checkered Garden, named by the creator,

very inspiring!

I had the perfect backing in my stash.

I remember buying 4 or 5 metres of this last year

 from Darn Cheap

for a very reasonable or 'cheap' price!

It is quilted in a simple grid design

with a lovely aqua Aurifil thread,

one of the reels I won in a giveaway a few years back!

I think it will make a great baby quilt

for bassinette or floor.

I took my quilt on a little trip to

Lambley Nursery and

Gardens.

And stopped in Clunes when I saw this old cart,

the perfect backdrop I think!

I think my mojo is back because I have not one

but two quilts in the planning stage!

Happy sewing!

In The Sticks!

I have a finish to share....

Just my 5th full-sized quilt for 2023.

I based this quilt on a few I had seen on Pinterest.

It seems it was popular back in 2009 on

"Film In the Fridge" blog

A tutorial for the blocks is here

I initially quilted in the centre of the white strips in a

grid design,

and decided it wasn't enough.

So then I went back and did a random square spiral!

Still not finished....

I used perle thread in black to hand quilt each block!

I think it adds something extra to the final look.

So "In the Sticks" is done!

Yes, I think our friends believe we live "in the sticks" as

described by Merriam-Webster:

"an area in the country that is far away from towns and cities"

so that is what I've named it.

The back is all made from stash!

Perhaps they think we live in this house?

Faded Love

......my Ditsy Doileys quilt is now finished.

And it also has a new name,

which suits it much better!

There is this pretty painted wall nearby so we headed

there this morning before it got to windy....

You can see a little of the backing fabric, pieced from

leftover pieces of sheets I have previously used.

I machine quilted around each square , first in the floral

borders and also in the plain ones.

I then added some hand quilting, using a variety of

threads .....

The winter sunshine played pretty shadows across it as

I stitched!

Of course it was appropriate to use a doily as a label!

"Faded Love" finishes at about 60" by 70"

Happy days!
