Email me at rex.brynen@mcgill.ca, and I’ll pass it on to Kit Barry (who organized the games).
Is it possible to get a copy of the rules used? I know 2 minute turns and 200yd/inch for the original, and have a rough idea of asdic performance, but maneuvering/diving performance of the U-Boats is hard to chase down. I am a retired USN SWO, once an ASW officer, and am looking to put a game on next year in the Chicago area.
I’ve had a chance to read the manuscript. A less meticulous/careful study than the work Dstl folks have done, but an interesting read.
In case it has not crossed your desks there is a new book out about WATU due out. Title is “A Game of Birds and Wolves” by Simon Parkin published 7/11/19. Press extract has some rather hefty claims but I suppose he, and his publishers, have a book to promote. Hopefully the full text is more balanced.
I’ll try to get a set from Dstl for posting to PAXsims (but it might take a while—I’m not sure if they’ve written them up in a way that makes sense to new users).
Do you have a link to the rules that were used?
Well done all looks like a great to spend your time
Fascinating day in a great setting. Well done to all involved. Holding a follow-up on HMCS Sackville is a must! Special thanks to Sally & Paul for the insights and I look forward to hearing more on the research behind the project. Paul Marks
Fantastic achievement – well done for organising this and promoting this previous “lost” piece of history to the fore.
PS: Have to say with my RN bias I was glad Rex’s and Tom’s U-Boat got sunk ;)
PPS The Wrens looked spectacular in period costume
