girl's bedroom: princess and the pea

Amy V. via FB: I just bought the Princess and the Pea set for my daughter (striped sheets, dotted shams) and am going crazy trying to round out the room. (We have the Walden bookcase and similarly dark dresser & bedframe...oh and beige walls...lots of beige.) I would greatly appreciate any suggestions you have on accessories, curtains, color choices...etc. My daughter's a bit spunky, which is why I love the bedding but I'm struggling with incorporating color & coordinating with other items.

As a final touch above the book corner, I'd like to give a more dreamy feeling. Our Wondergraph Garland won't be available until September, but I think it's a nice finishing touch on the translucent play throughout the space. I'd hang several strands straight down from the ceiling at varying lengths to act almost as a mobile in that corner.

Our gumdrop lamp will be perfect on the nightstand. It mimics the idea of fading from dark to light. Plus, it's just gorgeous! It's handmade by an American Pottery company that's been in business for over 100 years! The rich purple is such a nice complement to the soft lavender on the quilt.

I always like mixing in at least one more 3-dimensional piece on a gallery wall. This cloud shelf is a great option. It can house some prized momentos and adds a little whimsy to the room.

I think this perforated pendant would also be a great addition. It adds that airy translucence to the space, and it's just girly enough to work with the bedding, while still have the clean lines of a traditional drum pendant.

I suggest running a series of three of our Four-Leaf Mirrors along one side of the bookcase. Afterall, what little kid doesn't love making faces in a mirror. Also, it'll bounce around some of the light and add to the airy quality in the room.

And she'll definitely need a cozy place to lounge and enjoy her books. I like the idea of adding a bit of denim to the room. It's a durable, classic fabric. Plus, when she drags it out into the living room, it'll work with that decor, too.

To lighten up the bookcase a touch, I'd add a couple of our felt bins in lavender. Not only do they look good, but they hold a ton of toys!
Amy also already has our Walden Bookcase in the dark stain in the space. I'd use this as the anchor to create a "reading corner."
This is one of my all-time favorite etsy finds and it hangs in my daughter's room. Such a sweet sentiment for a daughter. I think it would be the perfect addition to this gallery wall.

Amy also mentioned that her daughter LOVES books. I like the idea of taking some pages from one of her favorite stories and framing them along with the other pieces in the gallery wall. It'll allow her to enjoy her favorite book everyday.

For the walls I'd suggest a gallery wall of various prints all framed in white. This is such a happy print that can anchor the wall. I love the translucence of the balloons. Sweet and simple all at once.

I'd include this Binth print as well. I like the bits of black in these to tie back to the Princess's hair on the bedding and the dark furniture.

I'd mix in a couple of these prints by Binth, they mimic the translucence in the Shinzi print and play nicely with the lavender in the bedding.

I'm using this image as my reference for the overall color palette and feeling of the room. I love the rich neutral colors on the furniture and floor, mixed with pops of happy girly colors throughout. I also like keeping the darker colors towards the floor and lower half of the room, and allowing the room to get light and airy as you travel up the walls.

With the combination of the beige walls and white trim, I love the simplicity of white, semi-sheer curtain panels. They'll give the room an airy-ness. Our Pretty Pleat Panels have a lovely pleated detail, but aren't too fussy. They'll definitely be curtains she can have in her room for a long time.
