I personally find that the best way to work on intense stretches (like hip flexors, hamstring and hips) is to do them in a somewhat relaxed position. Doing them while lying down allows the mind to relax, making it easier to practice intense poses without losing awareness of the breathe. I also feel that it gives us better control in managing the intensity of the stretch. . I use a strap here, but you can use a towel if you don’t have a strap.
