2.4K views · 733 reactions | I’ve made reels showing this flower technique before but a simple tip today is to leave space around your floral center. No need to smoosh your petals right up to the yellow center. ⁣ ⁣ 💐This way, I have room to extend my center without totally covering up what I just painted. ⁣ • Using a size 2 round, start with Yellow Ochre, lift a little bit out for a highlight ⁣ • Add Quin Gold dots on the lower part of the center, side edges & jussst below it, extending it into the white space⁣ • Let dry while adding your petals⁣ • Add more Quin gold, if needed, like I did here. Let dry for the most part. ⁣ • “Scribble” in Sepia slightly on top of the gold, just below it and around it, also extending into the white space ⁣ • Add small Sepia lines coming off center if you want ⁣ • All in all, gradually layer your pigments and extend them out into the white space you intentionally left in the first place ⁣ ⁣ This gives me the airiness and lightness I’m looking for between my center and my petals. ⁣ ⁣ I paint in a semi-loose, non-botanical style so no need to connect everything, in my opinion. I do the same with the leaves. I always have “floating” leaves in my pieces. ⁣🍃🫶🏼 ⁣ Let the brain fill in the blanks and preserve the all-important white space on your paper. ⁣ ⁣ #watercolorreels #watercolortips #watercolorartist #watercolortutorials #floralwatercolor | Jen Sweeney • watercolor artist & instructor

And even though I often include a description, supply list, and show the majority of steps, you simply can’t beat a real time, real voice video when learning (& teaching) something new. I entered phase 2 of my career, my art business, to teach and share what I’m learning. I absolutely love doing that through classes and now with my commitment to serve my email/newsletter group even more, I’ll be creating videos with topics like this bookmark for you! I’ll share mini tutorials and be able to show you exactly how and why (or why not) I’m doing what I’m doing. Not every newsletter will have a mini tutorial, but many will. And some will include handouts. Some emails will give you insight to what I’m working on, what I’m learning, what floats my boat, products & supplies I love, and what I think you’ll enjoy too! Long story short, you’re cordially invited to sign up for my newsletters and learn some really cool things in 2025. 🎨 Click my bio link and right at the top is a section where you can enter your email. Be sure to confirm your acceptance of receiving my emails when you get a return email from me. Huge hugs and warm thanks for allowing me to tag along your creative journey! ♥️♥️♥️ #watercolorartist #watercolortutorials #watercolortips #watercolortechniques #watercolorvideos | Jen Sweeney • watercolor artist & instructor

I love having my paint easily accessible and having them displayed on the wall also makes for a fun art installation to my workspace. Not only do I hang my paint tubes on it. I also display pictures for inspiration and pieces from previous works. If you are wanting a fun project to help your art space feel more organized you can make this too. Here are the supplies that you will need for this fun and easy project. -a woodcraft board I found this round one @hobbylobby they always have many shapes and sizes to choose from. -small nails. This craft board isn’t that thick so I went with size 1.59mm x 15.9mm. It will all just depend on how thick your craft board is. -spray paint. Any color of your choice -small binder clips I found these cute floral ones from @target ⭐️The instructions are simple and you will need a hammer, ruler and pencil as well. Spray paint your board, once it’s completely dry measure out the length of the tubes you will be hanging. I added an extra inch in case I wanted to add any larger tubes. The length of the tubes will be the length between each row of nails. Use a pencil and ruler to draw your lines for your rows . Hammer each nail leaving a 1 inch space in between each one. Clamp the binder clips to the bottom of your paint tube and hang! | Bree Copley

Sandy at Rest Awhile Studio on Instagram: "STEPS BELOW👇🏽 🎄With left over Arches watercolour paper I cut out a Christmas decor shape - the thicker the paper the better! 🎄Glue them together with Mod Podge (PVA glue would work too - might be a bit ‘wet’ though for the paper) - insert and glue the ribbon too! 🎄Weigh it down with something heavy - wait for an hour 🎄Paint your design 🎄Use the end of your brush to create dots 🎄Spray seal it with a non-yellowing art spray specifically for drawings - this prevents the watercolour running for the next step 🎄Seal it with a high gloss water-based sealer 🎄 All done! Ready to decorate the tree Hope this helps! What colour would you create yours? Perhaps save it for later to add to your Christmas decor ☺️. With hugs Sandy xxx . . . . . . . .
