I used a 2 inch block to create a space between the existing base and the new molding. I found the detail molding at Lowe’s. There are lots of moldings to choose from. I chose a 2” primed cove molding. This little diy hack took the existing 2 1/2” boring baseboards and turned them into a more ornate 6 1/2” baseboard. Here is how : You can smoothly transition from your existing baseboard to your 3/4 inch trim boards by adding a simple and budget friendly base cap trim upside down on your existing tapered baseboard. This will transition from the standard baseboard curved top to your 3/4 inch trim and eliminate any ugly overhang. I used a Woodgrain baseboard from Home Depot.
