Feature request: Support multiple primary coordinates in articles for Special:Nearby
Open, LowPublicFeature

Description

Special:Nearby does not show rivers with two coordinates (water spring + river mouth)

Hello,

the page "Special:Nearby", for example

https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:Nearby#/coord/49.139167,5.117778

does not list rivers when they have two coordinates, one for

  • water spring
  • river mouth

Example:
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q89582436

However, the river is shown on
https://wikishootme.toolforge.org/#lat=49.139167&lng=5.117778&zoom=18

For me, often it is easier to find a wikidata object by coordinates using the "nearby" special page instead of the "wikishootme" tool, especially with crowded places (e.g. cities) with a lot of objects.

I would appreciate, if rivers with water spring and river mouth could also show up in the "Special:Nearby" page.

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards,
M2k~dewiki

NearbyPages uses primary coordinates on an article and renders whatever the API gives it. Currently in Wikipedia articles, this can only apply to one. A solution would likely need to update the Geodata API either via some kind of Wikidata specific hook, but this is not something we would support directly in Extension:NearbyPages. Tagging it Wikidata in case this is something worth pursuing.
