According to officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Karachi experienced three more low-intensity earthquakes on Tuesday morning, making it a total of 19 mild earthquakes in the past three days. The tremors, all classified as low to moderate intensity, ranged from 2.1 to 3.6 magnitude on the Richter scale. German outgoing foreign minister Annalena Baerbock has been chosen as president of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The election was held on Monday and was a rare instance of discord in what is otherwise a ceremonial, symbolic election. Baerbock was elected with 167 votes in a closed ballot. Fourteen abstained, and seven supported an alternative candidate, Helga Schmid—a career diplomat who had been initially assumed to fill the position. Baerbock only became Germany’s candidate in March, following her announcement that she was leaving government after the elections in February.
