Tutorial - Paper Bauble

Hello there! Asha here and it's my turn to do the weekly tutorial. I'm going to show you how to make this fun paper bauble which was posted on Friday for our PolkaDoodle Challenge "Inspired By A Christmas Carol".

1. Cut out 20 circles out of patterned paper of the same design or a combination. You can use a die or a punch to cut out the circles but make sure they are all the same size. For my sample, I used a 2" die. Also, cut / punch 1 extra circle out of plain paper which will serve as a template.

2. Make a triangle template. Take the plain circle and fold it in half horizontally and vertically so that the circle is creased into quarters (circle 1 below). Fold each side to meet the centre starting at the bottom (circle 2 below).  Next fold down the top right, followed by the top left, each time meeting at the centre. (circle 3 below). Cut along the crease lines and you will end up with an equilateral triangle. This is your template (circle 4 below)

3. Place the template on the circle, with the pattern facing up, and fold up the circle along the sides of the triangle. Make sure you get a good crease on the circle to match the triangle template.

4. Repeat this on all the remaining circles.

5. Start by glueing 5 circles at the folded flaps, as shown below. This will form the "lid" of the bauble.

6. Cut some twine or thin ribbon, fold in half and tie a knot to make a loop.

7. Carefully pass the loop through the middle of the "lid". Use a needle or pokey tool to help you push. Pull the loop through until it stops at the knot. The "lid" is now ready.

8.  Next, glue 10 circles together in a strip - this will form the body of the bauble. Finally, glue the remaining 5 circles in the same way as for the "lid" to make the bottom.

9. Finally, assemble the bauble by gluing the top 5 flaps of the strip to the 5 free flaps of the "lid". This will leave you with 5 free flaps (see below) which you will glue to the free flaps of the bottom piece, thereby closing the bauble and completing the sphere.

10. Your bauble is now ready!

This project was great fun to make. It does involve some cutting / punching and folding, which makes this the perfect project for the entire family.  Have fun making these for Christmas!

Life is much better when you're laughing

Hello all Dee here with today's Studio 12 project.  This is something I did quite some time ago now but I've been holding off till the stamps were back in stock.  Well they are now in stock at last so here is my colourful 12x12 canvas.  There's lots of layers of paint and ink and I used stamps and masks on the canvas to give an overall riot of colour.  These are not my usual colours it has to be said, I always feel far more at home with cool blues and purples, but I wanted this to be happy and to make you smile when you looked at it, hopefully I have achieved that.

All the stamps are Polkadoodles Studio 12 and Susan K Weckesser at Studio 12. I had so much fun making this so I hope you all like it.

Now for our challenge for this week and the theme chosen is:

Christmas in July!
Yes, we cardmakers are already thinking of the festive season even though the heat is blistering here in the UK, so get your Christmas stash at the ready and show us your wares!  Our favourite top 3 entries for this challenge will each win a copy of our brand new Christmas collection, Angelberry Christmas, which is just adorable and is worth £11.99!

Lou: for my card, I designed my own mittens template to make a free standing swing card thingy (lol). All the paper, embellies and sentiment are from the Angelberry Christmas CD. When the card is "flat" it will fit in to an A5 envelope.

Kim - My Christmas in July card features a gorgeous digi and papers and sentiment all from the gorgeous 'Angelberry Christmas'!  I've coloured the digi with alcohol pens, added lots of glittery stuff, some ribbon, punched snowflakes and pearls.

Ruth:  It appears that I have broken with tradition this week and gone for the Studio 12 cd - Gingerbread Twist - probably because I was feeling rather peckish and these gingerbread people look scrummy to eat!  All papers and images are from the cd and I've added organza ribbon from my stash.
JAN - I have made a central stepper card using paper and images from the brand new 'Angelberry Christmas' CD. I couldn't resist this little guy - can you see his shiny nose (with a little help from my glossy accents!)

Lizzie- For my card  I used a digi image from the new mini CD Angelberry Christmas I coloured her using promarkers. Papers are from the Gingerbread twist CD. I used my Stickles glitter glue to jazz up the Marianne die cuts of the stars and icicles. boy it sparkles this card !!! Added some gems and voila !!!

I also made this card using the pre-coloured image and embellies this is all from the Angelberry CD. I used the embellies to make banners !!!  Hope you like it !

Shell- For my card this week I have used the gorjuss new Angelberry Christmas cd. I cut a ice skate shape on my cameo, then added a little trim and a flower to finish

So there is our inspiration this week!
You have until 12 noon on Sunday 4th August to enter and good luck!

Love and hugs

Hi all, it's Dee here with today's post for Studio 12. I used an image from the new mini CD Angelberry Christmas and the papers are from The Studio 12 Gingerbread twist CD.  I printed the image onto vellum, then coloured it in with colouring pencils on the back, which gives it a lovely muted effect.  I inked the edges with a brown chalk ink pad and fixed the vellum panel in place with some small heart brads.
Don't forget to check back tomorrow for the weekly Polka Doodles challenge.

Flowers Feed The Soul

Hello Crafters, it's Dee here with a cute little canvas for you.  I applied acrylics paints in pinks and greens for the base then added some spots with a pearl paint dabber.  I scribbled round the spots and added some strings of dots with a pink Promarker to add some interest.  The Flower, signpost, sentiment, leafy sprig and backing paper are all from the Studio 12 Heavenly Garden Collection (one of my faves).  Some distress ink round the oval just helps 'lift it off' the canvas background, some bakers twine and buttons just finish the piece off nicely.
Sorry it's a bad picture, but I'm having a few issues with my camera (and bad skills on my part, lol)

Don't forget to check back on Thursday for the next Studio 12 make, and Friday for the Polka Doodles challenge, plenty of inspiration for you all from the uber talented Design Teams.
