A Famosa | Malaysia


Postcard
A Famosa is a former Portuguese fortress located in Malacca, Malaysia. It is among the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Southeast Asia and the Far East. Actually only some small parts of the original fort remains today.

The fort was built in 1511 after a Portuguese fleet arrived that attacked and defeated the armies of the Malacca Sultanate. The fort changed hands in 1641 when the Dutch drove the Portuguese out of Malacca. The fortress changed hands again in the late 18th century when the Dutch handed it over to the British to prevent it from falling into the hands of Napoleon's expansionist France. 

Melaka and George Town, Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Christ Church is an 18th-century Anglican church in the city of Malacca, Malaysia. The church was built in 1753 by the Dutch, 100 years after they took possession of Malacca from the Portuguese.

Mantanani Island | Malaysia

The Mantanani Islands form a small group of three islands off the north-west coast of the state of Sabah, Malaysia.

The largest island is Mantanani Besar; the other two are Mantanani Kecil and Lungisan. It is a popular site for recreational diving as there are three nearby dive wrecks dating from the Second World War.

Bohey Dulang is a mountainous island formed by the remnants of an ancient volcano. The crater forming Bohey Dulang is flooded with seawater creating a large, majestic lagoon 25 meters deep.

Bohey Dulang is part of Tun Sakaran Marine Park, also known as the Semporna Islands Park. It comprises eight islands: Bohey Dulang, Bodgaya, Sebangkat, Selakan, Mantabuan, Sibuan and Maiga.

Sulug Island is located near the West Coast of Sabah, Malaysia. The island is part of the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. This park comprises 5 islands: Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sulug.

Sulug is locally known as rocky island and is the second smallest island of Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Sulug offers white sandy beaches, coral reef and clear water, making it an ideal spot for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Park is a Marine Park with a cluster of islands: Gaya, Sapi, Manukan, Mamutik and Sulug. The second largest island in the park is Manukan.

Manukan has a long stretch of white sandy beach, plenty of facilities and ranks as a top diving and snorkelling site. So it is no surprise this island attracts over 200,000 of visitors annually.

The Crystal Mosque | Malaysia

The Crystal Mosque or Masjid Kristal is a mosque in Terengganu, Malaysia. A grand structure made of steel, glass and crystal. The mosque was officially opened in 2008.  It has the capacity to accommodate over 1,500 worshipers at a time.

Eid or Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, which is a month of fasting that started on May 27. This year, Eid starts on Sunday June 25 (TODAY) and marks the start of a month of celebration.

Langkawi, officially known as Langkawi the Jewel of Kedah, is an archipelago of about 100 islands in the Andaman Sea. The islands are a part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border.

Langkawi Island is the main island and one of the two inhabited islands in this archipelago.

The stamp is part of a series of six stamps about orchids, issued February 2017. The 60 sen stamp shows Rhynchostylis, commonly known as the foxtail orchid.

Green Turtle | Malaysia

Malaysia is fortunate to host four species of sea turtles: Leatherback, Green, Hawksbill, and Olive ridley turtles. These gentle reptiles of the sea swim great distances and come on land only to nest.

Ligitan is a small island in Tawau, Sabah, located east of the island of Borneo, in the Celebes Sea. In the past, the island (together with Sipadan island) was at the centre of a territorial dispute between Malaysia and Indonesia. The dispute began in 1969 and was largely resolved by the International Court of Justice in 2002. The court decided that both of the islands belonged to Malaysia.

Kapalai Island | Malaysia

Kapalai Island is located off the east coast of Sabah (Borneo), Malaysia's easternmost state. About 45 minutes from Semporna by speedboat. Kapalai island is one of the many beautiful scuba diving havens in this part of the world.

The island of Kapalai, just 15 kilometres off Sipadan, was a beautiful island a few hundred years ago, but now it is only a sand bar. Erosion has reduced the island to sea level and the village now sits on the edge of the extensive Ligitan Reefs. All of the buildings are on stilts resting on the underwater reef.

Mamutik Island is the smallest of the lot and therefore less crowded than the other islands. There are no hotels, resorts or chalets on the island so the only way to spend a night is to make use of camping.

Sapi Island, literally known as "Cow Island" in Malay is just off the south-western tip of Gaya Island. The 25-acre (10 ha) island features one of the nicest beaches in the park and most popular with tourists for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Sapi is one of the 5 islands that comprises  Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park.

Gaya is the largest island in the park and is covered with dense virgin, tropical forest. The coral reefs along the entire coast of Gaya island make it a great diving destination.
