Røros Mining Town | Norway

Røros Mining Town and the Circumference is a Unesco World Heritage site. This site is linked to the copper mines, established in the 17th century and exploited for 333 years until 1977.

Røros is a unique mining town built exclusively of wood. The wooden houses and the centre of the town are included on the list. The mining town has retained much of its original structure in the layout of the streets from the 1600s, and the wooden houses built in the1700 and 1800s.

Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage Site | Norway

Rjukan-Notodden Industrial Heritage Site is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Located in a dramatic landscape of mountains, waterfalls and river valleys, the site comprises hydroelectric power plants, transmission lines, factories, transport systems and towns. The complex was established by the Norsk-Hydro Company to manufacture artificial fertilizer from nitrogen in the air. Struve Geodetic Arc | Norway

The Struve Geodetic Arc is a chain of survey triangulations stretching from Hammerfest in Norway to the Black Sea, through ten countries and over 2,820 km.

This helped to calculate the exact size and shape of the planet and marked an important step in the development of earth sciences and topographic mapping.

Struve Geodetic Arc is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Lofoten Islands are draped across the turbulent waters of the Norwegian Sea, far above the Arctic Circle. This rare wilderness outpost offers an endless landscape of majestic mountains, deep fjords, squawking seabird colonies and long, surf-swept beaches.

Due to the warm Gulf Stream, Lofoten has a much milder climate than other parts of the world at the same latitude, such as Alaska and Greenland. So winters are mild and the summers relatively cool.

Runde Bird Island | Norway

Runde is an Norwegian island that has a population of 102. The island is connected by the Runde Bridge to the neighbouring island of Remøya.

Every year from February to August, more than 500.000 birds come to Runde for the nesting season. Around 80 species have been proved nesting here, and more than 230 species have been observed in total.

Urnes Stave Church | Norway

Built in the 12th century, Urnes Stave Church is the oldest stave church in Norway. The Stave church is a medieval wooden Christian church built in Norway from the 11th to the 13th century, the walls of which were constructed of upright planks or staves.

Urnes Stave Church is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Rock Art of Alta | Norway

This group of petroglyphs in the Alta Fjord, near the Arctic Circle, bears the traces of a settlement dating from c. 4200 to 500 B.C.

The thousands of paintings and engravings add to our understanding of the environment and human activities on the fringes of the Far North in prehistoric times. Rock Art of Alta is a UNSCO World Heritage site.

The Vega Archipelago | Norway

The Vega Archipelago (Vegaøyan in Norwegian), is a group of islands in the Norwegian Sea. This cluster of around 6,500 small islands in Nordland county, just south of the Arctic circle, surrounds the main island of Vega and has been inhabited since the Stone Age.

The fishing village of Grip | Norway



Postcard
Grip is a small archipelago off the coast of Norway, near the city of Kristiansund. The fishing village is located on Gripholmen, which is the largest and only habitable island. For centuries it had a popuation of about 100 - 400. I

It was once a busy place, when 2,000 fishermen could stay there during the height of the fishing season. Today it has no permanent inhabitants, but it can be visited as a tourist.

Munkholmen island | Norway


Prison Island

Munkholmen is a very small island, located to the north of Trondheim, Norway. In the past this island has served as a place of execution, a monastery, a fortress, a prison, and a World War II anti-aircraft gun station.

Today, Munkholmen is a popular tourist attraction and recreation site. During the summer season you can enjoy lazy days at the beach, join a guided tour of the islet or have lunch at Munkholmen's very own café.

Hovedøya is one of several small islands off the coast of Oslo, Norway in the Oslofjord. The island is quite small, no more than 800 metres across in any direction. It is known for its lush and green nature. The island is a popular destination for tourists and bathers.

Lofoten is an archipelago in northern Norway, located within the Arctic Circle. The archipelago is known for a distinctive scenery with mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands. Winter scenery right out of a fairy tale, as you can see on the postcard picturing Hamnøy village.

The stamp is part of a set of two bird stamps issued 2015 and shows the European Crested Tit. This bird is a widespread and common resident breeder in coniferous forests throughout central and northern Europe.

Situated in south-western Norway, Geirangerfjord is part of the west Norwegian fjord landscape. The fjord is among the world’s longest and deepest. The deep blue Geirangerfjord is surrounded by majestic, snow-covered mountain peaks, wild waterfalls and lush, green vegetation. The fjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites.

In 2005, Geirangerfjord was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with Nærøyfjord, located 120 km from one another.

Grønningen Lighthouse is located on a small rocky island off the Norwegian coast. Part of the island is a bird sanctuary. During the summer the house is operated as a hostel with 40 beds for overnight stays.

Bergen – Famous for its Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf | Norway

Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is a reminder of the town’s importance as part of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire. Around 1360 a ‘Kontor’, a foreign trading post of the Hanseatic League, was established in Bergen.
