Colonia del Sacramento | Uruguay

Colonia del Sacramento is a city in southwestern Uruguay, on the east bank of the Río de la Plata. It is one of the oldest towns in Uruguay, founded by the Portuguese in 1680. The city was of strategic importance in resisting the Spanish. Its historic quarter is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Historic Quarter of the City of Colonia del Sacramento is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Isla de Lobos | Uruguay

Lobos is a small island located about 8 kilometres southeast of Punta del Este in Uruguay. Not to be confused with Lobos Island, part of Spain's Canary Islands. The island is home to more than 15,000 sea lions and 250,000 South American fur seals.

The origins of the lighthouse on this island date back to 1858. With its height of 59 meters, the tallest lighthouse of South America, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the island and the coast of Punta del Este.

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay

Colonia del Sacramento is a city in southwestern Uruguay, on the east bank of the Río de la Plata, only 50km from Buenos Aires by ferry. It is one of the oldest towns in Uruguay, founded by the Portuguese in 1680. The city was of strategic importance in resisting the Spanish.
Its historic quarter is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Stamps
The stamp is part of a set of four stamps about insects. This one depicts ‘bicho torito’ or ‘little bull bug’ in English.

The other stamp depicts a sculpture made by Octavio Podesta (1929 - ) a famous artist from Uruguay.

Montevideo, capital of Uruguay

Montevideo is the capital city of Uruguay. It is also the largest city and the main port of Uruguay. The Hotel Casino Carrasco is a historic hotel and casino. Construction started in 1912 and it was completed in 1921.

In 2013 Uruguay issued nine permanent stamps about the rights of rural workers.

The eastern spit of land separating the Atlantic Ocean from the Rio del la Plata was once known to sailors and fishermen as Cabo Santa María. Today, called Punta del Este this area is known worldwide as a scenic resort area with miles of beautiful beaches, luxury hotels and restaurants, glittery nightlife and an upscale summer population.
