TIMELESS STYLE, SMALL FOOTPRINT This handsome walnut bed features a hand-cut headboard shape (arched, stepped, cutaway or softened cutaway) with large acorn-topped turned legs. The ample headboard should remain visible above pillows when the bed is made. Perfect for a small space, the footprint of this bed is small; its width is the same as your mattress and length is just 3" longer. There is plenty of under-bed storage space with 10" of clearance beneath the bed. The support platform on our Libby bed is flush with the top of the frame, so your mattress rests on top of the rails and the square-top legs at the footboard end. The bed pieces are finely sanded and the rail edges are rounded over to make them feel nice and smooth. We make our beds from solid American hardwoods with a simple linseed oil finish. WALNUT HARDWOODS The color you see is not a stain, but the natural color of this beautiful hardwood. Black walnut is the darkest wood we offer, and can range from a medium brown to a dark rich brown. Sometimes we see a little bit of light sapwood, sometimes darker chocolate brown streaks or even a purple hue. When making our headboards from two pieces of wood, we work very hard to match the color and grain so it appears seamless. Because wood is a natural product, its beauty marks are normal, and may include knots, knot holes, worm holes, large streaks or sections of light or blond sapwood and/or variations in grain and color. These variations are what make each piece unique. Any significant knot holes are filled with dark brown epoxy to be sure dust doesn't collect in them. Please inquire if you are interested and we can show you what we have available now. OUR BEDS Our bed frames are handcrafted from solid American hardwoods. Thoughtfully designed and constructed to last for generations, our beds are finished simply with a hand-rubbed clear coat of linseed oil to reveal the natural beauty of the wood grain. When you buy our beds, you can rest assured that you're not bringing questionable wood or dangerous chemicals into your home, because our wood is solid, new, furniture-grade lumber, our glue is low-VOC and our finish is 0% VOC. Many of our customers have chemical sensitivities, and many people purchase our bed frames for use with organic mattresses. With everything we build, we think about safety, ease of use, practicality and durability of our pieces for generations of use. Outer dimensions (approximate): T 39"W x 78"L | TXL 39"W x 83"L | F 54"W x 78"L | Q 60"W x 83"L | K 76"W x 83"L | CK 72"W x 87"L MATTRESS SUPPORT Our slats are untreated kiln-dried poplar hardwoods, 1.125" thick x 5.5" wide We drill two holes in the ends of our slats and include screws so you can screw them down if you wish (helps to alleviate potential noise.) Standard slat spacing: Twin & Full: 8 slats 3.3" apart Queen & King: 9 slats 2.75" apart Cal King: 9 slats 3.3" apart Center support & leg are included on all King and California King size beds. This bed is meant for just a mattress. A lower priced option, which is equally strong, is for you to purchase untreated pine 2 x 6 slats from your local hardware store. They can be purchased and cut to size for $50 - $150 (depending on the size of your bed.) Should you choose to get them locally, we will tell you exactly what you need to get when you place your order, or feel free to request that info before you buy. CUSTOMIZATION The turned legs make this bed a little less easily customized, as compared with our other beds. It is available in other woods by special order, and can be made with different dimensions (taller, shorter, bigger headboard, small footboard, etc.) We do make this bed with a smaller straight headboard (see other listings.) We can add a center support, set the slats closer together, or set it up for a solid surface such as a bunkie board - just send us a message to ask about pricing. Customization on the hardwood portion of this bed may take a little longer and the price is significantly higher than our beds with straight or tapered legs, since the legs must be turned just for you. If you are worried about the mattress moving around on the frame, we have reached out to previous customers using this bed who have said this is not an issue, but you could certainly use a non-slip rug mat between slats and mattress. We can sink the mattress down into this frame with a design change. ASSEMBLY Our handmade hardwood beds are designed for easy home assembly. You will use a bit of glue, some dominoes, screws and a screwdriver, all of which are provided along with well-written instructions. Don't let that scare you, if you want to see instructions before you order, just ask. Once you have the legs attached to the head and foot rails, the bed is easily put together (and taken apart, should you move) with interlocking metal bed hardware. The slats are placed across the bed to create your platform, with a center support beam and leg running from head to foot on the King and California King. HELP!
