About this game

SOVL is a ruleset for playing fantasy wargames. It can be played with miniatures on a table or on your phone/tablet.

Fantasy armies meet on the battlefield and fight until one side is the bloody victor. Units of soldiers maneuver on the table and the outcome of melee combat, volleys of arrows and destructive spells is decided with dice rolls.

Features in the digital version:

Campaign mode: "Trail of Death" is a procedural campaign with roguelite elements. Start with a small warband and develop it into a grand army that can challenge the final boss.

SOVL Army Builder: Create and customize your army for any of SOVLs factions. Choose a Commander to lead, select units and their equipment, and design a color scheme.

AI Battle: Take your custom army and try it out against an AI opponent. Test your unit compositions and optimize your strategies.

Multiplayer: Play games online against other players. Challenge your friends and crush them on the battlefield!

Honestly, this is a great game. Very interesting mix between a rogue-like and tabletop battlefield strategy game. The tutorial was just an easy mode that didn't outright explain anything, and this is missing an in-game page that explains things like special abilities. Even still, the gameplay was enough to hook me into it to figure it out after a couple of hours. I would have absolutely bought this game if necessary. I hope a sequel is coming.

Looked everywhere for a tabletop war game that I could play solo, and this game fills that niche nicely. Random encounters are never anything cruel. They vary from optional fights, gambling for a buff, or a unit buy for a mount or monster. AND there's a generous number of starting heroes available for free-to-play players and unlockable units for added replayability. Overall, this is a war game focused on battles with easy-to-learn mechanics and flavorful abilities.

Decent tactical game. With this version, the Ai battle feature doesn't work for me as the game does not let me select what list I will be using or select a list for the ai to use. Another part of the game that bothers me is that the trail of death difficulties take too much time to unlock. A full winning run can take 2-3 hours or more, and having to do that 6 times per race just to unlock the highest difficulty is unfun. Higher max difficulty would also be nice since the ai units are weak.
