koontzness This is a fun record that popped up out of the blue… had no idea that WK was brewing something. Was a bit uncertain prior if I’d dig it when learning of no ‘proper’ rhythm section. Concerns were quickly allayed upon playback, as this is just another great WK musical outing. I love that he won’t sit musically still! Keep it up on YOUR terms, Wayne.

downesdesign Beautifully written and played. Indeed, WK, you can rage on your guitar, but you’ve also got the perfect— and only — voice to accompany your raw, wry lyrics.

I love these solo projects as every KCL record. Thank you for making and sharing them. Please keep the
coming. 🤩

How great that you're curious enough about this record to have shown up here - that's a big deal. So: new album. This one feels particularly momentous to me. It's not an instrumental album, despite the relentless guitar detail. Guitar and voice, more or less on equal terms. It's taken me years to crack that combination and the personal gratification is intense.

A big obstacle, aside from minimal vocal ability, was always a basic cluelessness over what to write lyrics about. The easy answers felt tired and empty. On "Howie 61" I tried wordplay, imagined characters, Psych 101 - but those didn't really get me over the hump like I wanted so I gave it up for a while.

When I started with this one, feeling at the end of my rope with instrumental stuff, I was able to get in touch with what mattered enough to me to inspire lyrics and what kind of effect I wanted. The balance between guitar and words. What I could do as a beginner singer. How to proceed.

I sincerely hope you dig how it came out as much I do, listener.

After the last song, "Pebbles," there's an album-only bonus clip, a music room jam recorded on the phone. It's more or less what it actually sounds like in the room when I write the stuff and it felt right to end with it. It's the only fade-out on the CD, being a believer in written endings for songs whenever possible. The audience - always - is worth it. Music is worth it!

about

New Krantz record : a protest song, a reminiscence, JH in London, an adoration, a blues song, a spirit song, a country song, another reminiscence, a writing song, a work song, another writing song, a seeker song, a jam.
