Faddis served as an anti-aircraft gunner trying to protect United States Navy aircraft carriers from the dreaded Japanese Kamikaze planes. The film follows the American Task Force at the peak of the Kamikaze attacks in 1945 in the South Pacific Theater. The loss and damage sustained by the American naval ships during World War II due to suicide attacks was devastating. The USS St. Lo CVE-63 was the first ship to be lost in such an attack, followed by the daring attack on the USS Randolph CV-15 at the naval base in Ulithi Atoll. The USS Bismarck Sea was also tragically lost, but the worst loss of life due to a Kamikaze attack on an aircraft carrier was suffered by the USS Bunker Hill CV-17, which was struck by two aircraft. These historical and detailed accounts offer a glimpse into the human side of wartime experiences, highlighting the courage and resilience of the individuals who walked the decks of these mighty ships as they lived through these unimaginable coordinated tactics. Their stories, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment to their duty in the midst of such perilous circumstances serve as a powerful reminder of the human toll and heroism witnessed during this critical chapter of World War II history. Now the war is over and upon returning home, like many veterans, Leon grappled with the psychological toll of his combat experiences, suffering from nightmares related to his time in war. For years, he attempted to conceal his struggles, as was often common among veterans of that era. To cope with his hidden scars of battle, Leon chose a unique path-he transformed his personal story, his trials, and his journey of healing into a song. Through the power of sharing his faith and the medium of music, he was able to offer a message of strength, hope, and faith to those dealing with the aftermath of war. Written by S. Cook See less
