On the last ...See moreIn the poverty stricken American south, unattended ten-year-old Otus lives with his absent-minded mother Loretta, existing on the wrong side of the tracks where poverty, drugs and gang violence are an everyday reality for him. On the last day of school before it shuts down, Otus' picks the book to read over the summer called "Neptune's Net" that's full of rich imagery to a fantastical world where a young boy travels with a giant across the planes. Later that day, Otus' best friend Dakari play basketball and Dakari breaks the news of moving out of his Section 8 housing. Suddenly the cops breaks up the game and rough up the older boys, Otus and Dakari run. Otus escapes through a narrow aqueduct tunnel. Coming out the other side, he finds himself next to an overgrown garden belonging to a limping old Didi, where he steals a tomato and runs home, dropping his book behind. When Otus wakes, Loretta is gone. The landlord knocks on the door, telling them they need to evacuate before the demolition. Otus waits. Loretta doesn't return. Otus takes it upon himself to search for her. With nothing left behind, he summons the courage to survive and grow in his vast world- Will he succeed in tracking down his mother or will his journey take another direction? Written by
