The film boldly deals with how roles in relationships are quickly being redefined. Martin(John Savage) and Katlin's(Kate Connor) final encounter happens in their fashionable downtown loft. It appears Katlin is simply leaving her husband of twelve years for a younger lover. However, her premise for leaving rings more of honesty and bravery than sexual desire. The two discuss the conflicts between romantic love and commitment, and how we can utterly fail while doing what we believe is right. They resignedly realize they'll achieve neither.
