A Brooklyn artist embarks on a desperate and turbulent escapade in search of a new home as her neighborhood gentrifies and pushes her rent through the roof and out of her beloved apartment. KHANSAVONE (Con-Sa-Vaughn) or Khan for short, is a first generation Lao American artist in New York and after living in her Crown Heights, Brooklyn apartment for over a decade, Khan's rent doubles, setting in motion an apartment hunt with unpredictable and off-putting encounters. She is confronted with making the necessary sacrifices in order to stay in the city she's come to love. New York is a special place because of its diversity and social aspect. A couch, a room, or an apartment is not what makes a home, it's the people, and in Khan's case, her neighborhood bar provides her with a sense of family. This journey also highlights her cultural isolation, as Khan's ethnic ambiguity incites discriminative and insensitive inquiry within her daily life.
