Like the winding tracks, lives run parallel, weave away from and then across each other, and finally separate away into a distant tunnel. The director is merely an eye, invisible and silent, but participating in a personal journey alongside all the other passengers "down the line". A macrocosm of humanity is revealed in carriages, on platforms, silently huddled in lifts or surrounded by the soporific hum of the escalator. Whatever their purpose, the journey provides a brief pause, or interval - a reflective space between the start and end of each individual destination.
