A woman has hanged herself from a tree. He lovingly takes her off and carries her away. A day later, hikers find the young man in a remote forest cabin - he has been shot dead. From Georg's deeply shaken mother, Ilona, detectives Lars Englen and Finn Kiesewetter learn that Georg had severe learning disabilities and few social contacts. After all, a year ago, sawmill owner Michael Vogt hired him as a laborer, much to the annoyance of his colleagues, who feared Georg's handling of the dangerous machinery. Only the young management assistant, Gaby Zinke, had developed a modicum of friendship with Georg, but allegedly knows nothing about Georg's private life and quickly becomes entangled in contradictions. In the course of the investigation, the officers encounter many more inconsistencies and questions: What is the plant manager Bohlandt hiding from them? Why did Vogt, who otherwise lacks a social streak, hire Georg in the first place? What's behind his wife's mysterious disappearance?
