They succeed in getting the job. Murphy's fiancée is the pal of a crook, and when he gives her the necklace, she distracts his attention and jumps into an auto. Murphy is prevented from following by Slim, her accomplice, who knocks him off the running board of the car, and he is picked up by a cop, who thinks he is drunk. Murphy bribes the cop by putting his hand in his pocket, and the cop releases him, but the wily plumber, instead of giving him some money, hands him a wrapped slice of chewing gum, and makes off before the cop realizes his trickery. Arriving home, Slim and the girl, whose name is Dora, find that a water pipe is leaking in the wall. Dora informs the janitor, who phones for Bloggie and Bill. Before they reach Dora's apartment Bloggie and Bill have a number of unfortunate occurrences. Bill's efforts to stop the flow of water prove unavailing, and he starts out of the room, when he sees the stolen necklace. He takes it and starts out with Slim following him, as Dora has seen Bill's theft, and she informs her accomplice. Bill, knowing that Slim is following him, hides in the hall, and Slim thinks he has entered Romany's apartment. When he goes in Bill flees. Romany's wife screams and Romany throws Slim out. Slim strikes the hallway floor with a gripping thud, and then hears screams in his apartment. He finds Bloggie trying to force his girl to kiss him, and he and Bloggie start a battle. While this is going on, the janitor is sweeping off the front of the apartment house, and Bill is again in his apartment trying to flirt with the wife. Bill promises to do so after she kisses him, and he accomplishes this by giving her the necklace, and as they kiss the janitor, her husband, enters. He grabs a gun. Bill, in fleeing from him enters the apartment of Romany, and the wife screams again. Romany, who is in the bathtub, starts out and comes into the room in his bathrobe. He throws Bill out of the hall at the same time that the janitor who, searching for Bill, enters Dora's apartment, and helps Slim subdue Bloggie, and throws Bloggie out. Bill and Bloggie meet head on in the air in the hallway, and they both go out. Murphy, meanwhile, has come upon Slim's auto standing in front of the apartment house, and he enters the janitor's, where he gets into a fight with the janitor and his wife. Upstairs Murphy enters the apartment of Romany, and when the Frenchman's wife sees him, she faints. Murphy, who thinks everybody is crazy, then goes to Dora's apartment, and runs everybody out. The janitors wife calls in a cop, the same one Murphy tricked, and when he sees Murphy, he starts to beat him. The janitor's wife throws the necklace down, and flees with Bloggie and Bill to the apartment beneath that of Slim and Dora. There they find the crook, Slim, and Dora, and as they all start an argument, the sounds of Murphy battling with the cop is heard in the apartment above. They are about to start out when the ceiling falls with Murphy and the cop. The flow of water is stopped by the janitor, who hammers a wooden plug into the hole in the pipe.
