The richness of this film is its humanity. It does not judge, does not moralize. It is not a manifesto for this or that method of withdrawal but a series of abrupt testimonies from men and women looking in the face their turbulent past and their uncertain present. Throats suddenly tighten when a mother recounts how her 18-month-old daughter begged her to stop taking drugs. The filmmaker was born in Neuchâtel. After studying ethnology in this city, he attended the International Film School in London, He co-founded « Film collectif » ,was twice assistant director for Alain Tanner,Richard Dindo,Later he wrote & directed "L'Air du crime" and "Horizonville" 1985 he moved to New York where he directed documentaries:in1986/ "Bailey Houseto live as long as you can" an emotional documentary on Homeless with AIDS(Berlin 1988) Next a episode of The American Cinema(PBS/BBC).Klarer co-founding Balthazar Pictures ,a film production firm based in NY (1989 , Johnny Suede with Brad Pitt) He wrote,directed and coproduced « Around the Block » (Locarno,Hoff) and "On the road with Robert Frank". /ats See less
