Soon Pétrusco becomes corporal, and gets to know, and even becomes friends with, Count Albert, a rich squire, who, once his service is over, is only too happy to welcome Pétrusco and his troop passing through his country. However, revelations from a former servant of the castle prove that Pétrusco is the first cousin of the count and the real owner of the castle and the wealth.
