In fact Tom bonded instantly with her young, sadly fatherless son Crispin, whom he tries to save from Kitty's absurd baby-mothering. Her ruining their kite makes Crspin run away and hide with grumpy old shepherd James Lowery, whose bitterly frozen paternal heart thaws thanks to the boy. Kitty discloses a major secret.
