The superintendent especially informs Clayton that the water at the pumping station must be turned off every night. Dolores, the pretty waitress in the cook shack, is annoyed at the attentions of the Mexican cook. Pedro, and Clayton, admiring the girl and seeing she is distressed, promises to help her if necessary. West and Pedro put their heads together and precipitate a fight between West and Clayton. Pedro watches with fiendish glee and Dolores also sees the fight. Running to the wheel which turns the water on or off, she manages to stop the flow just as Clayton falls. At the private dining room in the cook shack, Dolores places a note under Clayton's plate, telling him she is going home and asking him to meet her the following day at the old Mission. Pedro sees this and alters the note to read, "tonight." Clayton finds the note and is pleased. He prepares some paraffin and dips the wheel, which controls the water in the giant pumps, in it and also dips a coffee cup in the paraffin. This cup he takes into the kitchen and asks Pedro to re-fill it with coffee. He then throws out the fluid and takes the cup with him. That evening Pedro turns on the water again and Clayton is watching. Clayton takes the wheel home and compares it with the thumb print on the coffee cup, and knows that Pedro is the culprit. The superintendent is informed and congratulates Clayton and the latter goes to meet Dolores at the old Mission. West and Pedro, unknown to each other, go there too to get Clayton. They each mistake the other for Clayton and fight a revolver duel, in which Pedro is mortally wounded. Clayton finds West looking at the body of Pedro and there is a fight between them, in which they gradually struggle away from the man's body. Dolores is out with her father and is attracted by the shots. She sees that West is likely to shoot Clayton, and coming across the body of Pedro with the gun beside it, she picks op the weapon and shoots West. This leads to a complete understanding between the young people and they prepare to forget their troubles. Written by Moving Picture World synopsis See less
