Don Enrique Carrillo, a Spanish ranchero, is living with his wife and daughter, Dona Rosa and Senora Rosa, in the stately style peculiar to that time. The Mission Church, presided over by Padre de la Pena, still exists, and the family is ...See moreDon Enrique Carrillo, a Spanish ranchero, is living with his wife and daughter, Dona Rosa and Senora Rosa, in the stately style peculiar to that time. The Mission Church, presided over by Padre de la Pena, still exists, and the family is attended by Pedro, the Mission Indian servant. Soon there comes a young U.S. government official from Washington, D.C. Rosa and the government official, George MacCurdy, fall in love. Despite the protests of her mother and father they hold clandestine meetings and, subsequently, are married by the good old Padre. No sooner is the marriage ceremony performed than the wrathful Don Enrique appears and attempts to stab the bridegroom. During the conflict, Rosa hastens off to the priest and persuades him to intervene between the combatants. His priestly authority is sufficient to deter Don Enrique from his murderous act.
