It gives a vivid idea of the life and superstitions of the peasants inhabiting southern Italy. Mila is the beautiful daughter of Jorio, "the sorcerer," and elopes with Aligi. Aligi's father, who is madly infatuated with Mila and fights u duel with another admirer, follows the couple and is killed by his son. The parricide is about to be executed when Mila swears to the mob that she alone is guilty as she had bewitched Aligi, and caused him to commit the awful deed.
