His daughter and her husband find the care of the old man a burden and believe that he has some money concealed somewhere in the house. They make a careful search, sometimes using the poor old man roughly, but have failed to find the hiding place. In such an atmosphere a man with a nature like his could not survive. After his death, the violin, the only memento left of the old man, is carefully cherished by his daughter and the old man's grandson. Subsequently the husband dies and the mother and the child are left in want. The boy, who has been taught to play upon the violin by his grandfather, goes out into the world to seek his fortune with the instrument, but almost immediately the violin is torn from his grasp and run over by a passing motor car.
