A sedan across the lot comes forward and a sniper takes a shot at him. Robin seems doomed, but at the last moment, the sniper cries, "It isn't him!" and the sedan speeds away. The sports car--an exact duplicate of Robin's - turns out to belong to a fading young rock-and-roll singer names Teddy Thomas. Robin realizes the would-be killer was out to get Thomas. This is pretty well confirmed the following day when Robin learns that Thomas has a two hundred and fifty thousand dollar life insurance policy, payable between his manager and fiancee. When Robin tries to see Thomas at a night club to explain about the shooting, he is knocked out. Then Thomas is killed - in such a way that it legally seems accidental. The insurance company is going to be forced to pay off double indemnity, until Robin - with the magnificent and heroic aid of Phyllis - plots the weirdest plan of his career to trap the murderers.
