He finds that the field affords many thrills and escapades that border much on the old ten, twenty and thirty cent drama production days, for he has many mix-ups, trials and tribulations in the course of his employment. Peggy Prevost, who is only an extra girl, too has her ups and downs, and while she is bemoaning the fact that she, too, can't get work owing to the fact that she has no wardrobe that will suit the occasion, she meets Conklin, whose heart is touched by her plea for the loan of a pair of trousers, and there starts the point that leads the pair into many humorous situations. Sidney De Grey, director for the company, who is a crook at heart, has his eyes set on Peggy and he, too, later gets the noble idea that he would like to be the proud owner of the famous film he has just finished, entitled "Crumbs From The Upper Crust", so between stealing the film, at the suggestion of Don White, President of The Film Pirate Co., Inc., he tries his hand at insulting Peggy. In the meantime, Conklin still hankering for a chance to square old scores with De Grey, awaits his chance. Gordon D. Mullen, manager of The Phonie Film Co., is elated over the fact that "Crumbs From The Upper Crust", has been completed and he has invited the exhibitors to come and view his latest production. Upon their arrival at the vault they discover that the picture has been stolen. In the meantime, Conklin, after having his set-to with De Grey, who had ordered Peggy to his office and was about to attack her, when he (Conklin) having been thrown out of another set for breaking up a scene, luckily falls through the directors office and comes to the rescue of Peggy, only to be knocked out into a gymnasium set and be thrown back and forth or diving in by means of a springing board, and fighting his way up to where he kicks De Grey out and saves Peggy. The lunch hour whistle puts a stop to hostilities and they promise to settle their differences after lunch, and true to their promise, they meet at a fence and the battle continues, till Conklin is discovered by the star actor, who had found his best wardrobe stolen when he entered his room, and coming out sees Conklin besmeared with plaster all over his clothes. He is made to take off the star's clothes and put back on his old ones and kicks him out. Conklin runs amok with De Grey again and this time he waves the flag of truce, and De Grey sends him out to sweep the walk off. There Conklin runs into Don White, President of The Film Pirate Co. Inc., and chases him away from the fence. Sweeping, he finds the reel of stolen film, takes it to the cellar, accidentally knocks a brace from under a trap that hurls De Grey and White into the cellar. They find the stolen film, a fight ensues with Conklin whipping the pair. He drags the culprits to the floor above, where Mullen and some of his workers are telling an officer about the theft of the film, and that $5,000.00 reward has been offered for the return of the picture. Conklin calls to the crowd that he has the crooks and the film that had been stolen. All rush to him. He is given the reward and he asks Peggy if she will marry him. She agrees. Just at this period, Ann Ivers, the mother of De Grey, rushes upon the scene and finds her long lost son, just as he was about to be arrested with White for stealing the picture. Manager Mullen agrees to release De Grey if Conklin will return the reward he received for the capture of the crooks and the recovery of the picture. He (Conklin) shows his true heart and returns the reward to Mullen, only to steal it from Mullen's pocket as De Grey is released. Written by Copyright Description from Library of Congress See less
