With an average age of 70, the women at Bluebirds Playgroup voluntarily provide vital community services for children (and, equally, their carers). In an era of prolonged austerity and increasing social isolation, their work is essential and yet largely ignored at a regional and national level - their ceaseless contribution taken for granted. As the next generation is forced to monetize and publicize to survive, who will pick up the baton once these extraordinary women have gone?
