They came to report on State Archaeologist Breck Parkman's archaeological investigation of the Grateful Dead and an associated hippie commune known as The Chosen Family. Members of the band and commune lived at Olompali between 1966-1969 and left behind an abundance of artifacts. Breck Parkman was interviewed for the story, as was Fred Lew, the resident State Park Ranger. Also interviewed was Susan Swanson, a local "Deadhead" who visited Olompali when the Grateful Dead lived there. The 2-minute long story aired on both CNN and CNN International.
