Latona is King Midas's favorite, but he is tiring of her. Among the slaves brought to the king's palace is Iole, a Christian maiden. While in the palace garden, the gladiator meets Iole and falls in love with her. Laius asks the king to free the fair Christian and the king refuses. The king tries to force his attentions upon Iole, who is rescued by Latona. His Majesty then plans the gladiator's death. Orpheus, a friend of Laius, is stabbed by the king, who mistakes him for Laius. Laius finds his friend murdered and vows revenge. He enters just in time to rescue Iole from the king, and overcomes him. Aided by Latona, Laius and Iole make their escape. Written by
