Disgusted by its sheer size and the amount of slime such a small thing can create, Philip flicks it disdainfully into the garden. Later, when he's all alone, Philip hears his father's voice and -in a moment of madness - is struck guilty with the idea that the worm was his father reincarnated and that little worm needs finding - and saving - from the dangers of his backyard.
