He's alone, absconding in his friends' house in Pisa. He knows his time is coming to the end, and begins to write a letter. The memories came flooding back. His childhood, his homeland, his ideals, his regrets, the unsaid words, and finally, the first love. It's the first time Mazzini can take off the mask of the politician, the historical Hero, the mask of a man in black cloak that never laughed. For the first time he can be Giuseppe, simply Giuseppe.
