The two contrasting groups overcome many fears and huge barriers to meet and work together in the world of the arts. We meet a host of people, such as Emily, a ten-year old girl with dreams of becoming a missionary, and Pat, an 87-year old agnostic war veteran, who discover that, though "quite opposite", they share a love of the arts and can become friends. Many benefits blossom from this unusual project: extraordinary paintings and sculpture, stories, poetry, new understanding of literacy, and warm friendships that no participant will ever forget.
