Her sentence of 8 years' imprisonment and 80 lashes (extended in August 2023 to 10 years and 9 months' imprisonment and 154 lashes) is a deliberate attempt by government authorities to silence this human rights defender. Narges Mohammadi's documentary is based on interviews with 16 former prisoners, men and women who were subjected to White Torture: 4 white walls, no natural light and total isolation. A fearsomely effective form of torture that leaves no trace, prompting some to confess to any crime after just a few months, even if it means execution. All tell of the psychological destruction, the humiliation, the torture and the lasting trauma. See less
