It belongs to Steffen Engelhard, who runs a guesthouse and kayak rental business on the lake with his wife and son. Steffen initially remains missing - until his body is discovered floating in the water by Fahri and Axel. The investigation reveals that he was killed with a paddle when he landed at the rental business's dock after a kayak tour. Tourist Marie Hanschke quickly becomes the focus of the investigation. For several weeks, the young trans woman had been living in a room in the Engelhards' guesthouse to take a break from big city Berlin, where she lives in a shared apartment with her best friend Isabel Noack and other women. On the evening Steffen disappeared, Marie suddenly left in a hurry and returned to Berlin. Evidence indicates that she had gone out on the lake the day before in a rental kayak. Did Steffen Engelhard accompany her? And if so, what happened between the two? But Steffen's son Filip also quickly becomes suspected of having murdered his father in the heat of the moment. An irreconcilable dispute had been simmering between father and son for a long time: Filip designed and tailored fashion against Steffen's wishes. He dreamed of studying fashion design. Steffen, on the other hand, the athletic guesthouse and rental shop owner, always wanted a worthy successor to follow in his entrepreneurial footsteps. As the WaPo team discovered, a rift developed between the two shortly before Steffen's death: Steffen threatened to disinherit Filip. When it then came to light that Steffen Engelhard had cheated on his wife Katja with other women throughout their marriage, Katja also came under suspicion.
