It's a show combining the black comedy of M*A*S*H with the action and brutality of Combat. Except this unit was real, and wilder than anything you could invent. These are Marine Corps Combat Correspondents, who during the major campaigns of the Vietnam War had a literal license to run to the sound of guns anywhere, anytime under the mission of writing good-news, hometown compatible stories about their fellow Marines in combat. From diverse backgrounds and often with little or no journalistic training, these guys were chosen more for their flair, their devil-take-the-hindmost panache than any reporting or photographic ability.
