Investigators quickly determine that the dead woman is star soprano Christina Varell, who had hosted a reception on her yacht "Lohengrin" the previous evening. The mercurial opera diva had suddenly disappeared from there. Prior to that, sewage skipper and plumber Frido Zille had been carrying out repairs on the yacht. Forensic pathologist Dr. Dillinger is able to reconstruct the course of events: Christina Varell likely fell from a great height down a short flight of stairs. But who has a motive for the murder? Her young partner, Tim Molsen, becomes the prime suspect, as he was cheating on Varell with other women. Varell's understudy, Li von Haselstein, also profits from the death of her rival.
