When Bauer suffers a seizure in front of the journalists, it quickly becomes clear: the minister was the victim of a targeted attack. In the course of the investigation, Helen becomes involved in a highly explosive plot, behind which a war for the dominance of future genetic research and its ethical limits is unfolding. Helen is also under pressure in her private life: like her younger sister Paula, she suffers from a genetically inheritable, fatal disease.
