Vincent is known for his expertise in funk music. He has written notable books, like Funk: The Music, the People, and the Rhythm of The One (St. Martin's Press, 1996). Vincent, from Berkeley, California, loved funk music after seeing bands in the 1970s. He got a Master's and Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies, studying funk's history. The UC Berkely Professor teaches and hosts a radio show on funk music. Vincent started the San Francisco Funk Festival in 2001. He's been on TV and is known for his work on funk music.
