To keep such unity between it's vast and different citizens the homogenized state's leaders have implanted mandatory mind probes for it's citizens. Any detection of conscious or subconscious thoughts will result in a mandatory prison service of ten years. At the end of each prison sentence the prisoner serves a additional sentence of 2 weeks of solitary confinement used as a period of reflection apparently. Citizen P18165 a bald man in a white jump suit, is at the very end of his sentence with only 6 days left of his 14 day sentence. With only a small pencil he has been tally marking the remaining days. P18165 wakes up to find one morning that some of his tally marks has been erased by someone or something. Keeping his resolve P18156, tries to continue on with the sentence.
