The desperate few who remain fight over the resources that remain. Watching over the chaos is the Matriarch, Auburn Ashley, a supernatural being worshiped by The Scavenger, Kamden. Gifts nor prayer are The Matriarch's chosen form of worship, but violence. Our story begins when the Scavenger seeks to fulfill his pious duty, pursuing The Stranger, Michael Ude, but is defeated instead. The Matriarch haunts him for his failure figuratively and literally, until The Scavenger reaches a breaking point and The Matriarch pulls him into her realm where she confronts his failure. However, all is not lost. The Matriarch gives The Scavenger a pick-me-up with the eventual promise of continued favor. Patience is all that is asked. That and the implied "don't fail me again."
