Human nature can be volatile; Starkaður and Grímur, who are fraternal twins, both fall in love with Sól - one of the more beautiful women Iceland has begotten. They were raised together in hardship after their parents are brutally killed during one of many power struggles between the chieftains (goðar) of Iceland. But hardship can be to love what fire is to steel.
