Chapter 6: In this chapter, Dill and Jem decide that they are going to take a peek inside the Radley house. Scout decides to go with them. When they go, Nathan Radley tries to shoot them, because he thinks they are black people. Jem loses his pants while trying to get away. When Atticus asked him why he doesn't have his pants Dill says they were playing strip poker. When Atticus goes to bed, Jem decides to get his pants. He comes back successfully.

Chapter 4: The slow and frustrating school year comes to an end. However, before school is over Scout finds two pieces of gum hidden in one of the Radley's oak trees and she chews them both. After Jem got mad at her for it the brother and sister find two pennies in the same knothole and they keep them. Dill returns to Maycomb and the threesome continue playing together. They come up with a game called "Boo Radley" and as the summer passes they add on to it until Atticus questions the game.

Chapter 23: Everyone except Atticus are worried about Bob Ewell's threats. Tom Robinson has been sent to a prison 70 miles away and Atticus feels confident that Tom could be pardoned. Jem and Atticus talk about the trial and the unfairness surrounding the issue of race, even in the court system. After hearing that Mr. Cunningham wanted to acquit Tom, Scout wants to invite Walter over but Aunt Alexandra denies her request. Jem and Scout discuss the class system.
